Nexight Group President Jack Eisenhauer facilitated a CEO Roundtable at Constellation Energy on July 14, 2010, to discuss policies and actions that can help to increase resilience in the electric power sector. Nineteen executives representing 12 utilities provided insight into how power companies use resilience practices to mitigate risk and strengthen electric grid security and response capabilities. This landmark roundtable session is part of an ongoing study conducted by the National Infrastructure Advisory Council (NIAC) that is examining how critical infrastructure sectors can develop resilience goals and make their sectors more resilient. The study is being led by Mike Wallace, Vice Chairman and Chief Operating Officer of Constellation Energy, and Alfred Berkeley, Chairman of Pipeline Trading Systems LLC.
The CEO Roundtable closely follows the NIAC Quarterly Business Meeting, held July 13, 2010, at the National Press Club in Washington, DC. In his presentation to NIAC, Mr. Wallace provided an update on the study and highlighted common issues that affect resilience among critical infrastructure sectors:
- Infrastructure Design and Assets
- Supply Chain
- Sector Interdependencies
- Changing Risk Landscape
- Markets and Regulatory Structure
- Public/Private Roles and Responsibilities
- Information Sharing
The NIAC Study Group is expected to provide its report on electric sector resilience at its October quarterly meeting.
