Nexight Group is happy to welcome Julianne Puckett to the team as our new Senior Content Designer. An accomplished content strategist and user experience (UX) designer, she has worked within a variety of industries and sectors for over 15 years. We sat down with Julianne to ask her a few questions about herself, her views, and her new role at Nexight.
Q: Tell us a little about yourself.
I began my career as a traditional technical writer and editor, but I’ve spent the last 15 years or so working to help clients create and optimize their interactive experiences (e.g., software, web sites, mobile). In my work, I use my skills in research, design thinking, and marketing to analyze and synthesize data and information to creatively inform and improve projects, experiences, and strategic communication products. In my down time, I’m equally obsessed with vegetable gardening, classic cocktails, and cute shoes.
Q: Why did you decide to join Nexight Group?
As a content designer and strategist, I see my role as that of translator and storyteller: I take complex technical issues, information, and data and create from it compelling content that is both meaningful for and easily comprehensible by its intended audience. And that’s also what Nexight does for its clients. Joining Nexight has allowed me to put my translation and storytelling skills to work for clients beyond the information technology space. Plus, working at a small consulting firm gives me an opportunity to work more closely and directly with clients and industry influencers. I like that at Nexight, we focus on building relationships.
Q: What can you tell us about UX design and how it applies to your work at Nexight?
Everything we interact with has a user experience. Regardless of the industry or sector I’m working in, I believe good UX design means simply ensuring that whatever I create not only satisfies but also delights those who interact with it. At Nexight, I use UX design skills first to better understand our clients’ intended audiences or markets and then to map out hierarchically and visually how to craft a data story or present findings in the most relevant way.
Q: What are you most looking forward to about your new role at Nexight?
I’m continually impressed with everyone I work with at Nexight. With such a broadly talented team, I know I’m going to learn something new from each of them, and that’s exciting. Also, having most recently focused largely on business-to-consumer web sites, I’m looking forward to applying interactive design thinking to a wider variety of industries and technologies. Nexight’s unique ability to bring together all types of different organizations and people will definitely provide me with that opportunity.
Not to mention, of course, that there’s that little thing we call Waffle Wednesday.
