Nexight Group is seeking a communications analyst with proven experience writing for the web, social media, and/or other communications products, with the ability to quickly become conversant in technical topic areas related to agriculture, health and medicine, and public policy.
An ideal analyst must apply their expertise to conduct desktop research efficiently, offer critical analysis, synthesize information to draw meaningful conclusions, and write original and engaging content that accurately communicates complex information in a style appropriate to the platform and audience.
Nexight Group is a small technical and management consulting firm working for a variety of clients in many topic areas. Being adaptable, curious, and a critical thinker will be just as important as technical writing skills and project management experience
Skills
Applicants should have the necessary skills to perform the following job responsibilities:
- Quickly build subject matter expertise and use it to effectively research, analyze, synthesize, and communicate complex topics, data, and expert viewpoints—at a level appropriate to the target audience, from executives to employees, at all levels of an organization
- Write concise and engaging content for digital platforms (e.g., websites, social media, newsletters), and other publications including training materials, briefings, fact sheets, and reports
- Ensure technical accuracy of materials at all times while improving grammar, punctuation, scannability, readability, style, flow, and persuasiveness to engage target audiences
- Work individually and with a team to tackle research, analysis, and communications tasks that require strong critical thinking and analysis of complex problems
- Support subject matter experts in web design and development with requirements collection and analysis, documentation, and content development, curation, and management
- Assist in engaging with subject matter experts via surveys, interviews, and facilitated meetings to gather individual perspectives, clarify specific trends, reach consensus decisions, and achieve client objectives
Work location will be Silver Spring, MD, but some remote work and flexible scheduling is permitted.
Summary of Qualifications
Minimum
- Bachelor’s degree in writing, English, communications, marketing, journalism, or related field (e.g., a writing-heavy social science discipline) with demonstrated communications experience plus one year of professional work experience OR five years of professional work experience in these specified fields
- Experience in digital communications, social media, and web writing and content management
- Demonstrated ability to quickly review, comprehend, analyze, and synthesize large amounts of qualitative or quantitative data and communicate effectively to various audiences
- Ability to comfortably and professionally communicate with colleagues and external partners at all levels of seniority
- Ability to work well independently and collaboratively in a fast-paced, deadline-oriented environment
- Strict attention to detail with minimal oversight required
- Strong proficiency in Microsoft Office programs, particularly Word, Excel, and PowerPoint
- An entrepreneurial spirit that realizes value in all tasks, large and small, likes to learn by doing, and desires continuous improvement and innovation
Preferred
- Demonstrated familiarity or interest in agriculture, health and medicine, and/or public policy
- Previous work experience writing web and social media content, and developing and executing communications strategies
- Previous experience in management consulting, supporting a federal government client, or working for the federal government
- Previous work experience using content management systems (i.e., WordPress, Drupal)
- Experience with Microsoft SharePoint, Trello, or similar project management tools
