Nexight Group is seeking experienced Industrial Subject Matter Experts with a passion for clean energy and technology advancement. Subject Matter Experts have the option of working full-time or part-time with Nexight’s growing industry and manufacturing team. Ideal candidates will have significant experience working in industrial settings to manage and optimize processes; significant leadership or management of research and technology development, including pilot scale testing and design/build demonstrations; and supply chain management or scale-up experience. The subject matter expert will primarily work with one or two clients to augment their existing workforce, providing an extension of service with required deep knowledge and expertise. This senior-level position may provide an opportunity to apply your many years of experience and knowledge to impactful project work and decision-making program efforts. Subject Matter Experts will be expected to share their valuable insights with clients and with teams in a mentoring role to broaden industry knowledge.

Job Duties and Responsibilities
Applicants should have the necessary skills to perform the following job responsibilities:
- Providing subject matter expert insights to programmatic decision-makers and to collaborative projects.
- Heavy industries of interest – chemicals and petroleum refining, iron and steel, cement and concrete, glass, pulp and paper, non-ferrous metals, food and beverage.
- Manufacturing materials and technology areas of interest – thermal processing systems and equipment, high performance materials that increase lifecycle energy and material efficiency, low carbon fuels and hydrogen, microelectronics, energy storage, digital security and optimization, critical materials and circularity, supply chain management and scale-up, water/energy nexus, life cycle and techno-economic analysis.
- Expert review or contribution to technology roadmaps and program planning reports and briefings to provide industry perspective.
- Outreach to stakeholders for the purpose of technology review and participation in industry working groups (a strong industry network will benefit this position).
- Concept paper and technology proposal, expert reviewer.
- Quickly responsive to time critical technical questions and planned participation in working group meetings.

Working Conditions/Physical Demands
Nexight’s offices are in Silver Spring, MD. The position is open to in-person, remote, or hybrid candidates. Candidates must be willing to travel to the Washington, D.C. area occasionally to support clients. Applicants should expect to travel to Nexight’s offices at least once per quarter.
This is a primarily sedentary position in an environmentally controlled office setting, although moving between work areas may be required. Manipulating a computer keyboard or mouse and operating standard office equipment is typically required for this position. Summary of Qualifications
Minimum
- Esteemed proficiency in clean energy and technology advancement in the industrial sector.
- Master’s degree in science or engineering.
- Minimum of 15 years professional experience.
- Demonstrated experience contributing expert leadership in an industrial technology development setting. (experience in multiple industries and technology areas is a strength)
- Excellent communications skills, both verbal and written, that reflect strong critical thinking, analysis, and synthesis capabilities. Ability and interest in answering technical questions succinctly for both technical and non-technical audiences.
Preferred
- Postdoctoral degree, post graduate research or equivalent in industry
- Previous experience supporting a federal government client or working for the federal government or national laboratories
- Professional licenses (PE or other)
Compensation and Benefits
The salary range for this role takes into account the wide range of factors that are considered in making compensation decisions including but not limited to skill sets; experience and training; licensure and certifications; and other business and organizational needs. A reasonable estimate for the starting range is $120,000 to $160,000.
