Job Duties and Responsibilities
Applicants should have the necessary skills to perform the following job responsibilities:
- Providing expert insights to programmatic decision-makers. This can be in the form of technology reviews, briefings, analysis, or research (skills in multiple sectors and areas preferred).
- Heavy industries of interest – chemicals and petroleum refining, iron and steel, cement and concrete, glass, pulp and paper, non-ferrous metals, food, and beverage.
- Manufacturing materials and technology areas of interest – thermal processing systems and equipment, high performance materials that increase lifecycle energy and material efficiency, low carbon fuels and hydrogen, microelectronics, energy storage, digital security and optimization, critical materials and circularity, supply chain management and scale-up, water/energy nexus, life cycle and techno-economic analysis.
- Contributing to dynamic strategic planning, technology roadmapping, and related planning processes to build effective plans for R&D programs and partnerships.
- Writing technical and strategic reports, briefings, and presentations (writing examples recommended).
- Collaborating closely with team members and clients to deliver high quality support for ongoing projects, including short term responses and longer-term projects with project management opportunities.
- Engaging with stakeholders through outreach or planned workshops (opportunity for facilitation training for selected candidates).

Working Conditions/Physical Demands
Nexight’s offices are in Silver Spring, MD. The position is open to in-person, remote, or hybrid candidates. Candidates must be willing to travel to the Washington, D.C. area occasionally to support clients. Applicants should expect to travel to Nexight’s offices at least once per quarter.
This is a primarily sedentary position in an environmentally controlled office setting, although moving between work areas may be required. Manipulating a computer keyboard or mouse and operating standard office equipment is typically required for this position. Summary of Qualifications
Minimum
- Passion for clean energy and technology advancement in the industrial sector.
- Bachelor’s degree in engineering (may include chemical, mechanical, industrial, materials, or equivalent).
- A minimum of 6 years of professional experience working in industry, technology or management (candidates with greater years of experience encouraged to apply).
- Demonstrated experience in industries and manufacturing technology areas discussed herein (project management and strategic planning is a strength).
- Excellent communications skills, both verbal and written, that reflect strong critical thinking, analysis, and synthesis capabilities.
- Ability to work well independently and collaboratively in a fast-paced, deadline-oriented environment.
- Comfortable with multi-tasking when contributing to multiple short- and longer-term projects.
Preferred
- Master’s degree in science, engineering, business, public policy, or related discipline.
- Demonstrated experience and enjoyment in external stakeholder engagement via interviews, surveys, focus groups, facilitated workshops, or other means.
- Previous experience supporting a federal government client or working for the federal government.
- Experience or interest in direct supervision of staff, including both technical and non-technical roles.
- Located reasonably close to Washington DC, or willing to travel to DC occasionally.
Compensation and Benefits
The salary range for this role takes into account the wide range of factors that are considered in making compensation decisions including but not limited to skill sets; experience and training; licensure and certifications; and other business and organizational needs. A reasonable estimate for the starting range is $85,000 to $130,000.
